Nicole lived in Europe during her childhood, emigrated to Australia as an adult and subsequently settled in Dunedin, a university city on the South Island of New Zealand.

She has travelled widely, often to places untouched by tourism. In the Kimberleys of Western Australia she introduced pottery making to an indigenous Aboriginal community. She talks about it in the podcast "The Red Clay Rambler" by Ben Carter.

On her block of land in New Zealand she has restored the native bush remnants, creating a biodiversity corridor between the Otago Harbour and the Pacific Ocean, while integrating this within a farming operation.

The extinct volcano on which she lives provides her with various volcanic rocks which she fires in her kiln. The local indigenous flora and fauna are also featured in her work. Porcelain replica eggs of the Kiwi, Royal Albatross and the endangered Yellow Eyed Penguin (Hoiho) are an important tool in these conservation efforts.

Nicole has also invented the "Naked Glaze" - a world first - being a three dimensional pure high fired glaze without a supporting clay substrate.

The concepts of change, flux, transitions and metamorphosis are expressed on the material levels in her sculptures and often reference political, societal and environmental concerns.
